Saranac Lake offers plenty of things to do in the warmer months. With so many streams, mountains, and trails within close proximity of Saranac Waterfront Lodge, warm weather and summertime activities are easily accessible. Whether you're a seasoned fly fisher, hiker or are looking to learn the ropes of stand-up paddleboarding and rock climbing, our local partners can guide you through the best of Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and the Adirondack Mountains in the spring and summertime.

Lake Sports

HK Waterfront at Saranac Lodge is the premier boat rental outfitter for the Saranac Chain of Lakes. HK provides public rentals for fishing boats, pontoon boats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards to guests of the lodge. Paddle right from the hotel to the expansive Lake Flower and Saranac Lake chain of lakes, where you can enjoy beautiful Adirondack mountain views. You may even spot a loon on your journey!

Fishing

Saranac Waterfront Lodge is conveniently seated on the shore of Lake Flower and the Saranac Chain of Lakes where fishing for Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Bass, Pike and Perch is common. In Saranac Lake, Woods & Waters and Blueline Sports both offer fishing tackle, gear, and guided services. Rent a Fishing Boat right from our private dock! Swimming

Lake swimming is one of our favorite activities for a warm Summer day. Our favorite public swimming spots include the Lake Colby beach, Lake Clear Beach and the bay at Middle Saranac which can be accessed at the Ampersand Mountain trailhead.You can also enjoy a dip in our indoor swimming pool and hot tub, year-round using your guest room key for access.

Fly Fishing

Just minutes from the lodge are two of the most popular fly-fishing spots in the Adirondacks, the West Branch of the Ausable River in Lake Placid and the Saranac River which runs from the village of Saranac Lake to Lake Champlain. Saranac Waterfront Lodge can help arrange solo or group guided fly-fishing trips.

Hiking

Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a looking for an easy hike with spectacular views, the lodge can recommend some of the best trails for hiking. Some of our favorite hikes from easy, to moderate, to hard include the Tupper Lake Triad, Saranac 6 and the Adirondack 46 but there are also additional hikes off the beaten path that the lodge team would be delighted to help you select for your visit.

Rock Climbing

The McKenzie Road Boulders offers bouldering just minutes from the hotel. About 30 minutes further, in the High Peaks region, you will find highly sought-after rock-climbing spots such as the Chapel Pond Slab, The Beer Walls and more. Our friends at The Mountaineer and Eastern Mountain Sports offer guided rock-climbing services for beginners.

Woodland Foraging

Foraging is a fine art in the Adirondacks. Thanks to the deeply rooted forests, lakes and riverways the region is a mecca for fiddlehead ferns, morels and more. We recommend hiring a guide for the best experience.

Scenic Cycling

From the hotel in every direction offers incredible cycling from Summer to Fall. Leisurely bike the 3.6-mile Moody Pond Loop or the 5.5-mile Mt. Pisgah Loop as you take in the breathtaking mountain views. Bike ADK offers excellent resources for dirt and gravel cycling routes and events.

Mountain Biking

Minutes from the lodge, Mt. Pisgah is not only a winter destination, but also a great mountain biking location. The Flume Trail System in Wilmington, NY also offers excellent maintained trails with river and mountain views.

Birdwatching

The resident heron that spends his days exploring the Saranac River along the Riverwalk and the loons on Lake Flower are not the only amazing birds to see in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. The VIC at Pauls Smiths College is known for spotting rare and amazing birds in their natural habitats. Don't miss their Annual Great Adirondack Birding Celebration every June!
