Top Winter Events in the Adirondacks

If you ask us, the Adirondack High Peaks Region of Upstate New York is one of the best places in the country to embrace the beauty and joys of wintertime. This snow-kissed mountain- and lakescape wonderland is yours to enjoy as a guest of ours at Saranac Waterfront Lodge, set on the doorstep of Lake Flower in the Village of Saranac Lake.

Along with a bevy of winter activities, from downhill and cross-country skiing to snowshoeing and ice skating, accommodations at our LEED-certified Lodge position you perfectly for enjoying the area’s rich calendar of seasonal events. Here’s a look at some of the highlights!

The Sparkle Village Craft Show Fair – Saranac Lake

Your Saranac Waterfront Lodge guest room or suite puts you within easy reach of Saranac Lake’s Sparkle Village Craft Show Fair, a holiday-shopping tradition that falls the first weekend of December. This year’s edition, taking place Saturday, December 1st and Sunday, December 2nd at Harrietstown Town Hall, is the impressive 38th annual. Check out a bevy of handmade gifts created by local artisans and craftspeople.

The Holiday Village Stroll – Lake Placid

The three-day yuletide celebration of the Holiday Village Stroll takes over charming Lake Placid, New York—just a hop, skip, and a jump from Saranac Lake—from December 8th through the 10th this year.

Its attractions are diverse: from skating parties at the olympic Center 1932 Rink, ugly sweater contests, and a holiday craft and vendor fair to the Santa Ski at Whiteface Mountain, tree lighting and caroling at Mid’s Park, and the Chris Kringle Caravan parade. Santa Claus will be doing photo ops with the kids at Mid’s Park on Saturday, December 9th as part of the proceedings.

North Country New Year – Saranac Lake

Formerly called First Night, North Country New Year is Saranac Lake’s very own rechristened New Year’s Eve celebration. The full schedule hasn’t yet been released, but expect plenty of live entertainment, dazzling fireworks, and all-around good cheer as the town sends 2023 along its way and welcomes in 2024.

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival

One of the Adirondack region’s great winter traditions goes down right here in Saranac Lake in the form of the long-running Winter Carnival, which’ll once again unfold in all its frosted finery February 2nd through the 11th, 2024. This year’s theme is a family-friendly Halloween-inspired one: Creepy Carnival.

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival comes chockablock with seasonal awesomeness, including the famous Ice Palace. Fireworks, curling competitions, innertube races at Mount Pisgah, clue hunts all throughout town, Arctic Golf, snow rugby, the bathing-suit bike ride known as Blue Buns Wheel-a-Palooza: It’s an utter delight, and you won’t find better lodgings for all the fun than Saranac Waterfront Lodge.
