Summer Activities in Saranac Lake, NY

Summer on the Saranac Chain of Lakes? Heaven. This network of waterways, scattered with charming villages, nestles beautifully within the Adirondacks, one of America’s premier mountainscapes. From luxuriously lazy afternoons on (and in!) the water to huff-and-puff switchbacks to stunning High Peaks views, the sky’s the limit when it comes to appreciating this magical season.

And you’re perfectly situated for summertime bliss here at Saranac Waterfront Lodge, set right on Lake Flower’s Pontiac Bay. Here are a few ideas for activities to enjoy while relishing our premier Lodge hospitality!

Recreation and R&R on the Saranac Chain of Lakes

Naturally it’s hard to resist the lure of our area’s lakes and rivers: truly the heart of the landscape, and your cool, refreshing front yard as a guest at our LEED-certified property.

Here at Saranac Waterfront Lodge, we offer our very own private dock on Lake Flower, which makes hopping on the Chain of Lakes as easy as can be. You can rent kayaks, stand-up paddleboarding, pontoon boats, and fishing boats here, with laidback paddles in the immediate vicinity or longer, lake-hopping adventures both possible.

Day fishing licenses are readily available from multiple purveyors, giving you a chance to cast for such sought-after Saranac Chain of Lakes quarry as lake and rainbow trout, northern pike, perch, and bass. Meanwhile, the Saranac River and the West Branch of the Ausable River are both famed for fly fishing. (Our Lodge team can help arrange fly-fishing excursions during your stay, by the way.)

Hiking & Biking

Our Adirondack surrounds come laced with seemingly endless trails, and it’s sheer joy to try exploring every mile of them—which, of course, involves repeat visits to Saranac Waterfront Lodge!

From close-by hikes such as The Pines to genuine wilderness jaunts into the Adirondack backcountry—and from short, easy, well-graded footpaths to long, demanding routes—there’s a whole galaxy of hiking awaiting you on a Lodge getaway.

And cycling adventures here range from level pavement and dirt circuits to rugged tracks on Mount Pisgah, the Flume Trail System, and other mountain-biking destinations.

Other Outdoor Activities on a Saranac Waterfront Lodge Getaway

Whether from a stand-up paddleboard or a deep-woods hiking trail, you’ll enjoy rich opportunities to spy Adirondack wildlife while out-and-abouting it from Saranac Waterfront Lodge. Loons on the lake, speckled whitetail fawns along town paths, maybe a glimpse of a dark-furred fisher racing through the underbrush: Keep your eyes peeled!

Those of a rock-climbing persuasion can beeline for the McKenzie Road Boulders just a hop, skip, and a jump from Saranac Waterfront Lodge, or try High Peaks pitches at such sites as the Chapel Pond Slab.

We’re certainly far from exhausting the possibilities here. Pick our brains during your stay here at Saranac Waterfront Lodge for other outdoor fun and adventure, and remember we can help arrange guided outings and other activities. We can’t wait to host you for an Adirondack summer vacation!
