Fall Foliage in

Saranac Lake

Brilliant burgundies, flaming oranges, sunshine yellows, and burnt ombre create a magnificent patchwork of fall foliage to quilt the Adirondack scenery each and every year. This magnificent, nature painted landscape is searched out by nature lovers, and the like, each year, in search of the “high” point or peak of autumn color. You can see these outstanding hues when visiting the Saranac Lake Region. Use these x ways when seeking out the season’s scenery.

1. Hiking

The number one way to view and enjoy the height of hues is by hiking. With trailheads, like Baker Mountain, Jackrabbit, and Oseetah Lake, hiking is plentiful to get you and your crew up into the tree line to enjoy the foliage.

2. Paddle

Perhaps hiking isn’t your schtick, it’s all good. You can view the changing leaves from below as well. Saranac Lake offers the Riverwalk, which offers places to launch your kayak or canoe and soak in all the colors from the trees and the reflection.

3. Market & Cornell Maple Syrup Experience

Not only can you partake in the awesome fall foliage around Saranac Lake in Autumn by way or trail and water, you can also enjoy it in the company of others at the Saranac Lake Farmers Market. Every Saturday, on Main and River street, you can enjoy the harvest season under the canopy of color with local vendors who serve up natural produce and items for those who live and visit the area. The Uihlein’s 200+ acres of forest provides an outdoor laboratory for the study of maple syrup production. The forest also serves as an educational center for applied education and demonstration of modern syrup production. Tours of the Uihlein Maple Research Forest are available anytime of the year. You can enjoy this delicious Cornell Syrup with breakfast at Saranac Waterfront Lodge.

4. Picnic

What spells autumn romance? A picnic under the trees, or even above the trees (revert back to number one on the list). You can easily find an area in the park or off the trail to have a fall themed picnic with your favorite person, or even as a family! With four available parks around the area, you are sure to find that perfect picnic place to spread out under the tree’s beautiful colors.

5. Interaction

Speaking of families, you may be visiting with young ones, whose legs may not want to climb tall mountains. That’s okay! You can still get out under the canopy to view the magnificence of the season. Take the kids, young and old, and head over to Paul Smith’s college for their Visitor Interpretive Center. Here you can visit settings that bring you right into nature, no matter your age.

6. Bike

Feel the wind in your hair as you watch the flash of color swirl around you. Bike around Lake Flower and through the village for all the fall foliage visuals you can collect, and don’t forget your camera, as this method offers you some great photographic scenery.

Any of these six opportunities can give you the well sought after opportunities to view some of the most spectacular fall colors in New York State. If any or all of these are not quite up to your abilities, you can always grab a cone, or a shake and travel by way of car, viewing the outstanding colors throughout the peak season in Saranac Lake.
