Saranac Lake Winter Carnival

The East Coast's Longest-Run Winter Festival

Experience one of the nation’s oldest winter traditions. For 125 years, Saranac Winter Carnival has honored its tradition as the northeast’s original winter carnival. This 10-day celebration draws guests from all over for food, activities, competition, and entertainment. From snowshoe and cross-country ski races to curling and arctic golf, from pancake breakfasts and parades to firework displays, the Carnival is ten days of fun that fills downtown Saranac Lake with energy and excitement each February.

Just across Lake Flower from the Saranac Waterfront Lodge an ice palace, built from 1,500 blocks of ice harvested from the lake, glows with light throughout the festivities. This magnificent tradition is the centerpiece of the Carnival each year and is quite the sight to enjoy with a hot drink or a cocktail in hand from Navigator’s Lounge. While you’re at it, enjoy a special Winter Carnival menu and cocktail list at the Boathouse.

2022’s ‘Totally 80s’ themed Carnival runs from Feb. 4th – Feb. 13th and features a lineup of competition including Downhill Skiing, Curling, Ice Skating, Cross-Country Skiing, Arctic Golf, CanAm Rugby, Volleyball, and a frying pan toss, open to professional and amateur competitors alike. The schedule also features a fun array of social events centered around food, drink, and entertainment including the annual Snow Ball Formal Dance and the Royalty Dinner, both of which we’re proud to host in 2022.

With much of the action taking place at Prescott Park and Lake Flower, Saranac Waterfront Lodge guests enjoy front row access to the fun, the fireworks, and the action. This is an event on many a winter-lover’s bucket list, so don’t wait until the last minute to book your accommodations for this annual celebration.
