Saranac Lake Skiing

From Olympic Downhill to Family-Friendly Hills:
Ski Lake Saranac

Featuring some of the highest elevations in the Northeast, Adirondacks are home to the best downhill skiing in New York State. From family friendly hills to serious shredding, there’s an option for all skill levels in and immediately around Saranac Lake.

30 minutes from Saranac Waterfront Lodge, the region’s legendary Whiteface Mountain offers some of the most challenging and diverse terrain, including the highest vertical drop (3,166 ft.) east of the Rockies. With 90 trails of groomers, parks, glades, and slides, the resort is a mecca for northeast skiers and even played host to alpine skiing competition in the 1980 winter Olympics.

Mt. Pisgah offers gentle alpine slopes and a popular tubing hill. This classic small-town Adirondack ski mountain is a family favorite, located just outside downtown Saranac Lake, and even features night skiing.

Another popular family option can be found 50 minutes away in Malone, NY. Titus Mountain Family Ski Center stretches across three peaks to include 50 groomed and ungroomed trails, two terrain parks, and 10 lifts. Known as one of the Adirondacks’ hidden gems, Titus Mountain boasts uncrowded slopes and short lift lines. Skiers can also book a slopeside “Skibana” for the day, a private cabin to warm up in with a drink or a bowl of chili between slopes.

And if downhill skiing isn’t your alpine sport of choice, Dewey Mountain, another option close to downtown Saranac Lake, offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing (including under the lights at night).
